Fundraising efforts are not an everyday occurrence, even less so in metal. Swedish Christian metal powerhouse Ulterium Records is now doing just that in the form of Project Aegis and its second single Angel in the Ashes, which’s proceeds go straight towards efforts to alleviate the Greek refugee crisis. And actually it is not the first time, because three years ago this same project had released another single titled Collide Spark that also served a charitable cause.
And just one look at the line up shows that this is not just a haphazardly thrown together affair, because when a project boasts the names of Rob Rock,
Matt Smith (Theocracy), Daisa Munhoz (Vandroya), Leah McHenry (Leah) and Vasilis Georgiou (Black Fate/Sunburst), then it is serious. Penned by Smith, „Angel in the Ashes“ is a soaring power metal song that has enough immediate accessibility to draw in the listeners right away to spend the one dollar to get the track and at the same time retains enough musical substance to make it worthwhile to listen to it over and over again (and it also serves as a solemn reminder that a new Theocracy album is way overdue).
